About Gagea pratensis (Pers.) Dumort.

Gagea pratensis (Pers.) Dumort., commonly known as the yellow star-of-Bethlehem, is a plant species in the lily family native to Europe and the Mediterranean region. It is widespread across most of Europe, and also found in Turkey and Morocco. This species was first formally described for science by Persoon in 1794. Gagea pratensis is a bulb-forming perennial herb. Its flowers are typically yellow, and sometimes each tepal has a green stripe along its back. The variety formerly classified as Gagea pratensis var. paczoskii is now recognized as the separate species Gagea transversalis.
