This species, whose scientific name is Fruticicola fruticum (O.F.Müller, 1774), has a characteristic shell that is globular in shape with a deep umbilicus. Its shell ranges in color from whitish to brownish, and reaches a maximum dimension of approximately 22 millimetres, which is equivalent to 0.87 inches. This snail is distributed across Europe; until recently, it was also present in the southeastern part of the British Isles, where it was likely an introduced species. Specific regions where it occurs include Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic (where it is classified as least concern, LC), Germany, Great Britain (where it is now extinct), the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Finland, Slovakia, and Ukraine. For its life cycle, the eggs of this species measure 1.9 millimetres, or 0.075 inches, and individuals of this snail species produce and use love darts as part of their mating process.
