About Froelichia floridana (Nutt.) Moq.

Froelichia floridana is a flowering plant species belonging to the genus Froelichia and the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae. It has several common names: prairie cottonweed, Florida snakecotton, large cottonweed, field snakecotton, and plains snakecotton. This is an annual plant that grows white woolly flowers on tall flowering stalks, and can reach a maximum height of 40 inches (1,000 millimeters). Its leaves are opposite, shaped from narrowly oblanceolate to elliptic, and grow on the lower third of the stem. This species is native to central and eastern North America, ranging from the Great Plains to Mexico, and extending east to the Atlantic Coast. Because it spreads easily, it is classified as an agricultural weed, and it is also an invasive species in Australia.
