About Fregetta tropica (Gould, 1844)
Fregetta tropica (Gould, 1844) are usually black, with a white band across the rump, white markings under the wings and on the flanks. A broad black stripe runs along the center of the belly, though this stripe may be broken or completely absent. They have long legs, so their feet are visible extending beyond the tail when they are in flight. Their legs and feet are black. They are mostly silent when at sea. Vocalizations can be heard from breeding colonies: birds on the ground produce a drawn-out, shrill whistle.
