About Frankenia salina (Molina) I.M.Johnst.

Frankenia salina, commonly known as alkali heath or alkali seaheath, is a perennial herb. It is native to California, Nevada, Mexico, and Chile. Even in the region where it is most likely to occur, just north of the San Francisco Bay Area, it remains an uncommon species. It grows as a low, squat flowering bush that forms twiggy thickets in habitats near beaches and coastal salt marshes. As a halophyte, its common name references its preference for alkaline soils. It has adapted to life in saline habitats by developing the ability to excrete excess salt. Its flowers are colored pink or fuchsia.
