About Fragaria viridis Duchesne

Fragaria viridis Duchesne, commonly known as creamy strawberry or green strawberry, is a species of strawberry native to Europe and central Asia. Its fruits have a fine flavor. They contain surprisingly little of the typical strawberry aroma, but have a refreshing acidity, and sometimes ripen without turning red. When fruits are plucked from the plant, the calyx usually adheres to the fruit, and the fruit detaches with a noticeable snapping sound. All strawberry species have a base haploid chromosome count of 7. Fragaria viridis is diploid, meaning it has two pairs of these chromosomes, giving a total of 14 chromosomes. Fragaria viridis is approximately 6.24 million years old.
