About Florinda coccinea (Hentz, 1850)

Florinda coccinea (Hentz, 1850) is bright red with a black caudal tubercle. Adult individuals typically reach 3 to 4 millimetres (0.12 to 0.16 in) in length, and females grow slightly larger than males. Their eyes are arranged in two rows: two eyes on the top row, and six procurved eyes on the bottom row. Webs spun by this species are made up of a horizontal sheet of non-sticky silk, with a tangle of stopping threads above the sheet. These stopping threads intercept flying prey, causing them to fall into the sheet below, where the spider attacks the captured prey.
