About Flammula alnicola (Fr.) P.Kumm.
Flammula alnicola (Fr.) P.Kumm. has a cap that is 3 to 8 centimeters in diameter. The cap begins conical to convex, and develops into either flat or umbonate as it matures. The cap is gold or yellow, and darkens as the mushroom ages. Its stipe measures 4 to 8 centimeters long, and sometimes features a ring zone. The gills are pale yellowish when young, and turn reddish brown or orangish brown when the mushroom matures. This species produces a brown spore print. Depending on the collection, Flammula alnicola has been recorded to have either a citrusy scent or an indistinct smell. Flammula alnicola is a saprophytic fungus that grows on rotting wood. It most commonly grows on alder wood, and occasionally grows on other types of hardwood. It can even grow occasionally on conifer wood. This species is found in North America, Asia, and Europe.
