Ficus ficus (first described by Linnaeus in 1758) has an unusual thin shell with a somewhat pear-like shape. It has four whorls, a very small spire, and a long narrow aperture. The shell can reach 12 cm (5 inches) in length, and the maximum recorded shell length for this species is 145 mm. Its pinkish shell surface has a trellis-like pattern of fine striations. The inside of the shell is orange, and the species has no operculum. It has a large foot with two curved flaps positioned near the head, plus a single long siphon. Ficus ficus occurs in the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific. Its recorded depth range spans from 0 m to 176 m.
