About Ficedula elisae (Weigold, 1922)

The green-backed flycatcher, with the scientific name Ficedula elisae, is a bird species belonging to the family Muscicapidae, the family that includes all Old World flycatchers. For a long time, it was classified as a subspecies of the narcissus flycatcher. However, observed differences in physical traits and vocalizations between the two confirm that they are actually two distinct separate species. This species breeds in northeastern China and spends the winter in southeast Asia. The proposed separate species "Ficedula beijingnica", commonly called the Beijing flycatcher or Peking flycatcher, is currently recognized by experts as simply the first-summer male of the green-backed flycatcher, and is no longer treated as a valid separate taxon.
