About Felimare zebra (Heilprin, 1889)
Felimare zebra is a relatively large species of nudibranch, which can grow to a total length of at least 180 millimeters, or 7.1 inches. This nudibranch has a black body, with longitudinal orange lines running along its body and dorsum. Its mantle edge is typically white, and is sometimes dotted with black spots. Its gills are translucent with black outlines, while its rhinophores are entirely black. This species shows some natural color variation. One study examined the close relationship between Felimare picta, Felimare bayeri, Felimare tema, Felimare lajensis and Felimare zebra, and explored how similar Felimare zebra is to Felimare picta. This nudibranch is currently only known to occur in Bermuda, located in the Atlantic Ocean. The minimum recorded depth for this species is 1 meter, and the maximum recorded depth is 18 meters. Felimare zebra feeds on the sponge Dysidea etheria.
