About Felimare californiensis (Bergh, 1879)

Felimare californiensis, a species of nudibranch, has a blue mantle and blue foot covered with moderately large yellow-orange spots. Adult individuals reach a maximum body length of 90 millimeters. This species occurs in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, along the Pacific coast from Monterey Bay, California, through Baja California. It became regionally extinct in the northern portion of its original range, and had disappeared entirely from California by 1984. It began to reappear in California starting in 2003, and is now found in a small number of isolated locations within the state. Taxonomic studies have confirmed that Felimare ghiselini is a junior synonym of Felimare californiensis.
