About Felimare agassizii (Bergh, 1894)
Felimare agassizii (Bergh, 1894) is a species of nudibranch with a black body covered in small yellow flecks. A series of larger white spots runs lengthwise along the upper dorsum. Its mantle is bordered by a band that is green, then yellow, then green. Its gills are translucent gold with black tips, and its rhinophores are black. This species can grow to a total length of at least 100 mm. This nudibranch is found in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from the Galapagos Islands to Mexico. A 2010 study by Verdín Padilla et al. investigated the diet of Felimare agassizii on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Through examination of stomach contents and feces, the researchers found that this species feeds on demosponges, and has been recorded eating nine demosponge species: Mycale psila, Mycale sp., Haliclona caerulea, Cliona californiana, Cliona papillae, Pione mazatlanensis, Tethya taboga, Geodia media and Dysidea uriae.
