Fagonia cretica L., currently classified as Zygophyllum creticum, is a plant species belonging to the caltrop family Zygophyllaceae. It is native to dry regions of the Mediterranean Basin, specifically found in North Africa (Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt), Southern Europe (Balearic Islands, Portugal, Southeast Spain, Sicily, and Greece), and West Asia (Saudi Arabia and the Sinai peninsula). This species grows on rocky coastlines. It is a creeping plant with fleshy leaves, and produces star-shaped flowers with five narrow petals that range in color from purple or violet to light violet.
