About Facelis retusa (Lam.) Sch.Bip.
Facelis retusa, commonly known as annual trampweed, is an annual flowering plant species in the Asteraceae family that originated in South America. It is native to Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, northern Argentina, and Chile, and has become naturalized in parts of Africa, Australia, and North America, including the southeastern and south-central United States. It is classified as a noxious weed in some of the areas where it has naturalized. This plant is an annual herb with stems that reach up to 30 cm (1 foot) in length, and very often trail along the ground surface. Its leaves grow crowded along the stem, with each leaf reaching up to 3 cm (1 inch) long. Flower heads form in clusters, containing white or purple disc flowers but no ray flowers. Its achene is covered in several long, feathery bristles that give it a white appearance and enable effective seed dispersal.
