About Euxoa messoria Harris, 1841

Euxoa messoria, commonly known as the darksided cutworm or reaper dart, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Thaddeus William Harris in 1841. Its distribution ranges from Newfoundland westward to Yukon. In the southern part of its range, it extends to Virginia and Missouri in the east, and to New Mexico, Arizona, and California in the west. The wingspan of adult Euxoa messoria measures 32 to 36 millimeters. Adult moths are in flight from July to September, with the exact flight period varying by location. This species produces one generation per year. The larvae of Euxoa messoria feed on apple leaves, leaves of cultivated vegetables and flowers, and the leaves of a variety of other plants.
