About Euura viminalis Kopelke, 2001

This section describes the gall produced by Euura viminalis. The gall forms on the underside of a host plant leaf. When young, it is egg-shaped, and it becomes globular as it matures. The gall has brown warts, is usually hairless, may have a red tinge, and can reach up to 5 mm in diameter. A brownish circular depression is visible on the upper side of the host leaf. These galls develop on the leaves of two willow species: osier (Salix viminalis) and purple willow (Salix purpurea). In terms of distribution, Euura viminalis occurs across most of southern and central Europe, ranging north to southern Sweden. It is a common species in Great Britain and Ireland.
