About Eutrochium dubium (Willd. ex Poir.) E.E.Lamont
Eutrochium dubium, commonly known as coastal plain joe pye weed, is a North American flowering plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to eastern United States and Canada, growing primarily along the Atlantic coastal plain from Georgia north to Nova Scotia. This species is a herbaceous perennial that can reach up to 170 cm (68 inches, or 5 2/3 feet) in height. Its stems are either solid purple, or green marked with purple spots. The plant produces many flower heads arranged in flat-topped clusters. Each flower head contains 4 to 10 dark purple disc florets (rarely pink or white) and has no ray florets. Its flowers attract birds. Eutrochium dubium grows best in full sun to partial shade. It can adapt to a range of different soil types, as long as the soil does not stay dry.
