About Euthystira brachyptera (Ocskay, 1826)
Euthystira brachyptera adults reach a body length of 13–26 millimetres (0.51–1.02 inches), with females typically growing larger than males. This species has a shiny yellow-green body. Male wings reach the middle of the abdomen, while female wings are very small and often pink or purple in color. Euthystira brachyptera can be confused with two related species, Euchorthippus declivus and Chrysochraon dispar. It can be told apart from these species by its sharper head top and proportionally smaller eyes. Adult Euthystira brachyptera are active and can be found between July and September. This species occurs across most of Europe, the eastern Palearctic realm, and the Near East. It favors mountain and subalpine meadows with tall grasses, heaths with rough vegetation, and woodland clearings. It is quite commonly found in calcareous grasslands that host Brachypodium pinnatum.
