About Eurydema ornata (Linnaeus, 1758)

Eurydema ornata is a species of shield bug that adults reach a length of 7–8 millimetres (0.28–0.31 in). Adult individuals typically have gray or bright red bodies marked with black; in some cases, red patches are instead colored white or yellowish-green. This shield bug feeds by sucking plant sap, with a particular preference for plants in the mustard family (Brassicaceae, also called crucifers), including cabbage, cress, and radish. It can become a pest that damages crop plants. This species overwinters in the adult life stage. Nymphs of Eurydema ornata are pale yellow and orange, with dark brown or black markings on the pronotum and the dorsal side of the abdomen. Eurydema ornata is distributed across Europe, North Africa, and South and East Asia. It typically inhabits open areas with low-growing vegetation.
