Eurybia hemispherica (Alexander) G.L.Nesom, commonly called the southern prairie aster, is an herbaceous perennial plant in the Asteraceae, also known as the composite, family. It is native to the south-central United States, growing primarily in the lower Mississippi Valley and southeastern Great Plains. Its native range extends from Kansas south to Texas, and east to Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Florida Panhandle. Its most common natural habitat is upland prairies or dry savannas, and it grows less frequently in open moist areas. It can be found growing in sandy-loamy soil. This species grows to a maximum height of 120 cm. Its leaves are linear, hairless, and slightly shiny. It produces flowers during late summer and fall. Its flower inflorescence is elongated, shaped like a spike or raceme. The flower heads hold purple ray flowers.
