Eurya japonica Thunb., commonly called East Asian eurya, is a shrub belonging to the Pentaphylacaceae family. It grows between 1 and 3.5 meters tall. This species is native to eastern China, Korea, and Japan. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant. In Shinto, it is considered a sacred tree, and its leaves are used for sacrificial offerings.
