About Eurema laeta (Boisduval, 1836)

This description covers the wet and dry seasonal forms of Eurema laeta, separated by sex. For the wet form male: the upper side is pale yellow, with basal areas lightly dusted with grey-black scales. The forewing has a broad vinescent-black outer marginal band that curves from the middle of the costa to the upper median vein; below this point, the band curves inwards to the lower median vein, with its posterior end deeply cut inward to the wing angle. The hindwing has a clearly defined, slender, complete black band, plus a salmon-coloured patch of matted scales between the costal and sub-costal veins. The underside is paler yellow and mostly unmarked, with only very faint marginal dots, a small upper discocellular streak on both wings, and a dot above the cell plus discal transverse streaks on the hindwing. The forewing has a sub-basal oval patch of compactly matted salmon-coloured scales that extend below, and partly above, the basal portion of the median vein. For the wet form female: the upper side is paler yellow than the male. The forewing's outer marginal band is somewhat broader. The hindwing's band is broader towards the anterior edge, complete, and lacks the male's costal salmon patch. The underside matches that of the male, with no sub-basal patch of salmon-coloured scales. For the dry form male: the upper side forewing band matches the shape of the wet form, but its posterior end is more deeply excavated. Markings on the underside are more visible than in the wet form. For the dry form female: on the upper side, the posterior end of the forewing's marginal band is faded and indistinct. The hindwing's band is narrower towards the posterior edge and is more or less broken. The underside matches that of the dry form male.
