About Eurema daira (Godart, 1819)
Eurema daira, commonly known as the fairy yellow, barred yellow, or barred sulphur, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. This species was first formally described by Jean-Baptiste Godart in 1819. Its established distribution ranges from Argentina northward to the southern United States. Non-breeding stray individuals have been observed as far north as southern Arizona, South Dakota, southern Texas, and even Washington, D.C. The wingspan of adult Eurema daira measures between 32 and 41 mm. In the southern portion of the species' range, adults can be seen in flight year-round; in more northern areas, vagrants appear in late summer and fall. The caterpillar larvae feed on plant species in the Fabaceae family, specifically including Stylosanthes biflora and various Aeschynomene species. Adult butterflies feed on nectar from a variety of flowers, including joint vetches and shepherd's needle, and they act as the principal pollinators of Cnidoscolus urens.
