About Euphyllia cristata Chevalier, 1971

Euphyllia cristata, commonly known as Grape coral, is a species of stony (hard) coral. It is classified in the order Scleractinia, family Euphylliidae, and genus Euphyllia. E. cristata has a wide distribution across the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region, with a large population presence in Indonesia. It also occurs in the Coral Triangle and the Great Barrier Reef, but it is not found in the Red Sea. Despite its broad distribution range, E. cristata has a slightly lower abundance than other related coral species, so it is relatively uncommon to encounter. This coral grows on hard substrates, and is typically found in shallow waters at depths between 1 and 35 meters below the surface.
