About Euphorbia peplis L.
Euphorbia peplis L. is a small, hairless annual plant with a prostrate growth habit. Its stems grow 10–20 cm (4–8 in) long, and it typically produces four stems from its base. The leaves are opposite, oval, 1–2 cm (0.4–0.8 in) long, grey-green, and somewhat fleshy. They have reddish-purple veins, oblique bases, and a slightly curved, wavy shape. Its fruit capsules are hairless, and contain smooth 3mm seeds. This species grows on sandy sea-shores, and only rarely occurs inland. Its range covers the shores of the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian, and Red Seas, as well as the Persian Gulf and Ireland, according to the PoWo Map. At the northern edge of its range in England, it has always been rare, and is now extinct.
