About Euphilotes battoides (Behr, 1867)
Euphilotes battoides, commonly known as the square-spotted blue or buckwheat blue, is a species of butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. This species is distributed across western North America, ranging from California south to Baja California Norte, and extending east to southern Colorado and New Mexico. There are unconfirmed reports that it may also occur in Oregon and Washington, and further research is required to confirm this potential range extension. The wingspan of adult Euphilotes battoides measures 16–17 mm. Adults have one generation per year and are active in flight from mid-April to August. They feed on flower nectar from a variety of plants, with a primary preference for Eriogonum species.
