About Eupeodes pomus (Curran, 1921)

Eupeodes pomus, commonly known as the short-tailed aphideater, is a species of syrphid fly that can be found throughout North America. Members of this fly group, also called hoverflies, are able to stay nearly completely motionless while in flight. Adult Eupeodes pomus are also referred to as flower flies, because they are frequently seen on flowers. They get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen from these flowers. Reports note that the larvae of this species feed on a variety of aphids.
