About Eupeodes luniger (Meigen, 1822)

Scientific name: Eupeodes luniger (Meigen, 1822). Wing length is 7.5–8.5 mm. For males: the postocular orbit is less than half of its maximal width near the vertex. For females: the frons has white dust spots, with the undusted area extending as a black Y-shape into the yellow portion. Tergite 5 has a yellow side margin. The male genitalia of this species were figured by Dusek and Laska (1973), and the larva was illustrated by Rotheray (1993). This species is distributed across the Palaearctic, ranging from Fennoscandia south to Iberia and the Mediterranean basin. It is found from Ireland east through Europe into Asia Minor, and also occurs across European Russia, the Russian Far East, and Siberia all the way to the Pacific coast (Kuril Isles), as well as in Japan and North India. It is a highly migratory species.
