About Eupeodes latifasciatus (Macquart, 1829)
This species has a wing length of 6.5–8.5 mm. For male individuals: the yellow spots on tergites 3 and 4 are connected. The front margin of these yellow spots is almost straight, and runs parallel to the front margin of the tergite. The disc of the scutellum is covered mainly by yellow hairs. For female individuals: there are no frontal dust spots, and the frons is entirely shiny. The lateral margins of tergite 5 are yellow. The yellow spots on tergites 3 and 4 are joined to form bands that reach the lateral margins. Male genitalia of this species were illustrated by Dusek and Laska in 1976. The larva of this species was described by Dusek and Laska in 1960. This species is distributed across the Palaearctic realm, ranging from Fennoscandia south to Iberia and the Mediterranean basin, including Turkey and Ireland. Its range extends eastwards through Europe to European Russia, the Russian Far East, and Siberia, reaching the Pacific coast including Sakhalin and the Kuril Isles, as well as India. It is also found in the Nearctic realm, ranging from Alaska south to California and Texas.
