About Eunicella albicans (Kölliker, 1865)

Eunicella albicans (Kölliker, 1865) is a sea fan species that is orange in color, with flexible, whip-like branches. It can reach a maximum height of 70 cm, and its individual branches measure between 0.3 cm and 0.5 cm in width. This sea fan is exclusively found along the South African coast, occurring at depths of 10 to 30 meters, ranging from the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula to Port Elizabeth. It is endemic to this specific region. Ecologically, this sea fan is preyed on by the whip fan nudibranch Duvaucelia odhneri, which was previously called Tritonia nilsodhneri, and this nudibranch closely resembles the sea fan it feeds on.
