About Eulonchus sapphirinus Osten Sacken, 1877

Eulonchus sapphirinus is a species of small-headed flies that belongs to the family Acroceridae. A 2008 study identified this species as a potentially important pollinator in specific habitats. Individual Eulonchus sapphirinus made up the majority of insect visitors to Geranium robertianum flowers. Researchers also found that male and female Eulonchus sapphirinus differ in their flower-visiting behavior, and this difference appears to be connected to their mating behavior.
