About Euchloe simplonia (Boisduval, 1828)

Euchloe simplonia, commonly known as the mountain dappled white, is a butterfly species that occurs in the mountainous regions of Western Europe. The primary host plants for this species belong to the genera Sinapis, Isatis, Aethionema, Iberis, and Biscutella. Despite a lack of comprehensive population data, the species is thought to be restricted to a small area of the western Alps and is classified as endangered in Europe. Euchloe simplonia is closely related to Euchloe naina. Results from cross-breeding experiments indicate that E. naina may be a subspecies of Euchloe simplonia, though this classification is disputed based on morphological evidence.
