About Euchloe hyantis (Edwards, 1871)

Euchloe hyantis, commonly known as the pearly marble, pearly marblewing, or California marble, is a species of butterfly that belongs to the Pieridae family. This butterfly is native to the West Coast of North America, where it ranges from southern Oregon south through California (west of the Sierra Nevada crest) into northern Baja California, Mexico. Its natural habitat includes rocky canyons, cliffs, moraines, and gravelly flats. The wingspan of adult Euchloe hyantis measures between 28 and 37 mm (1.1 to 1.5 inches). Adults fly from April to early July, with only one generation produced each year. The larvae of this butterfly feed on the flowers and fruits of plants in the Brassicaceae family, and they feed most often on Streptanthus species. The chrysalis stage of Euchloe hyantis overwinters through hibernation.
