The narrow digestive gland inside the cerata is usually dull purple in color. It bears a superficial resemblance to Janolus cristatus. The maximum recorded body length of this nudibranch is 10 mm. Eubranchus tricolor was first described from specimens collected at the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea, United Kingdom. It has since been recorded all around Britain and Ireland, along continental European coasts from Norway to Portugal, and within the Mediterranean Sea. The only confirmed recorded depth for this species is 128 m, which is both the minimum and maximum depth recorded to date. It feeds on multiple species of hydroids, including Nemertesia antennina and Nemertesia ramosa from the family Plumulariidae.
