About Ethmia longimaculella Chambers, 1872
Ethmia longimaculella, commonly called the streaked ethmia moth, is a species of moth belonging to the family Depressariidae. This species is distributed across southern Canada and the northern United States east of the Rocky Mountains. In the American Midwest, its range extends southward into Texas. The forewings of this moth measure between 8.8 and 11.2 millimeters, or 0.35 to 0.44 inches, in length. The base color of the forewings is white, with black markings that mostly appear as longitudinal streaks. The base color of the hindwings is whitish near the base, turning pale brownish toward the outer sections. For the nominate subspecies E. longimaculella longimaculella, adults are generally active on wing from late May to early July. Adults of the subspecies coranella have been recorded flying in May, June, and August. The larvae of this moth feed on plants in the genus Lithospermum, specifically including Lithospermum officinale and Lithospermum latifolium. Larvae have also successfully been reared from the host plant Onosmodium hispidissimum.
