About Ethmia discostrigella Chambers, 1877
Ethmia discostrigella, commonly known as the mountain-mahogany moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Depressariidae. Its distribution ranges from the western United States southward into Mexico. The forewings of this species measure between 10.4 and 14.7 mm (0.41–0.58 inches) in length. The base color of the forewings is dark gray, with scattered whitish scales across the surface. The base color of the hindwings is pale gray, which shifts to a whitish ocherous shade toward the anal region. Adults of the nominate subspecies fly from April to September, producing multiple generations per year in the southern part of the species' range. Subspecies Ethmia discostrigella subcaerulea flies from March to September, and also produces multiple generations annually. Larvae of the nominate subspecies feed on Cercocarpus ledifolius, and likely feed on other Cercocarpus species as well. Larvae of subspecies subcaerulea feed on Cercocarpus betuloides and Cercocarpus minutifloru.
