About Ethmia arctostaphylella Walsingham, 1880

Ethmia arctostaphylella is a moth species that belongs to the family Depressariidae. This species occurs in the United States and Mexico. Its confirmed distribution extends from southern Oregon and northern California in the north, south to Sierra San Pedro Martir in Baja California, and east into southern Nevada (specifically Mount Charleston) and Arizona (the Pinaleno Mountains and Oak Creek Canyon). Its range may extend further north into Oregon and also into Utah, following the distribution of its host plants. The forewings of Ethmia arctostaphylella measure between 8.4 and 11.7 mm (0.33–0.46 inches) in length. The forewing ground color is divided by a longitudinal line: the costal half is dark gray, and the dorsal half is whitish gray, with several black spots present. The hindwing ground color ranges from pale to dark gray. Adult moths are active on wing from February through October. The larvae of this moth feed on species in the Eriodictyon genus. Confirmed host plants include Eriodictyon californicum, Eriodictyon tomentosum, and Eriodictyon trichocalyx, while Eriodictyon angustifolium is a possible host.
