The sunburst darter, scientifically named Etheostoma mihileze, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish. It is classified as a darter in the subfamily Etheostomatinae, which belongs to the family Percidae. This same fish family also includes perches, ruffes, and pikeperches. The sunburst darter is found in the Arkansas River drainage, specifically in southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, northeastern Oklahoma, and northwestern Arkansas. It lives in small, clear, cool streams and creeks that have a substrate of clean gravel, cobble, or a combination of the two.
