The scientific name of this moth species is Etainia sericopeza (Zeller, 1839) Beirne, 1945. This species has a wingspan of 6–9 mm. Edward Meyrick provided the following detailed description: the head is ferruginous-orange, and the collar is ochreous-whitish. The antennal eyecaps are ochreous-whitish. The forewings are blackish, with a yellow-whitish basal spot, a bent fascia before the middle, a yellow-whitish tornal spot, and an opposite yellow-whitish costal spot. The hindwings are grey. Adults of this moth fly during May and August. The larvae feed on Norway maple (Acer platanoides). This species is distributed from Fennoscandinavia south to the Pyrenees, Italy, and Greece, and from Great Britain east to Russia and Ukraine. It also occurs in North America, where it has been recorded in Delaware, Massachusetts, Ontario, and Quebec.
