The crimson-rumped waxbill, scientifically named Estrilda rhodopyga Sundevall, 1850, is also commonly known as the rosy-rumped waxbill. It is a common species of estrildid finch native to eastern Africa. Its estimated global extent of occurrence is 830,000 square kilometers. This species has been recorded in Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has classified this species as being of least concern.
