Black-faced waxbill has the accepted scientific name Estrilda erythronotos (Vieillot, 1817); it is also sometimes referenced under the synonym Brunhilda erythronotos. This is a common species of estrildid finch that lives in southern Africa. It has been recorded in Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has classified this species as being of least concern.
