About Erythroxylum monogynum Roxb.

Erythroxylum monogynum, commonly known as bastard sandal or red cedar, is a tropical tree species belonging to the family Erythroxylaceae. It is native to Peninsular India and Sri Lanka. This is a small, evergreen bushy tree that typically reaches 7 meters (23 feet) in height, though it can sometimes grow taller. Its leaves are simple and arranged alternately along stems. Small white bisexual flowers, which have 5 to 6 sepals, are produced from March through June, and the plant produces a one-seeded drupe as its fruit. Flowering and fruiting can occur throughout the year. This plant is recorded to have high medicinal value, and in Ayurvedic medicine, it is used to treat a range of diseases including stomachache, dyspepsia, fever, and dropsy.
