About Erythrina abyssinica Lam.
The flowers of Erythrina abyssinica Lam. attract sunbirds. After flowering finishes, the species produces a long, cylindrical, wood-like seed capsule. This capsule can grow up to 30 cm long, and holds bright red and black seeds. The seeds of Erythrina abyssinica Lam. are used as fish poison, and are also used decoratively in necklaces. The soft wood from the trunk has been used to carve small statues and animal carvings. The wood is also used to make beehives and African drums, also called Tam Tam.
