About Eristalis dimidiata (Wiedemann, 1830)
Eristalis dimidiata, commonly known as the black-shouldered drone fly, has the following physical characteristics. The humeral cells located at the base of its wings are opaque and infuscated, while the remainder of the wing is almost entirely transparent (hyaline). A diffuse medial spot may occasionally appear on the wing. The fly's hind tarsi are completely black, and most of its body is black overall. The posterior margins of its abdominal segments are white. It has distinct, dark brown pterostigma, and between one and six short bristles grow on the dorsal (back) surface of its arista.
