About Eristalinus sepulchralis (Linnaeus, 1758)

This is a technical description of Eristalinus sepulchralis (Linnaeus, 1758). The wing length of this species ranges from 6.5 to 8 mm. In both sexes, the eyes are covered entirely in hairs and marked with noticeable black spots. The tergites are black, with green or other types of iridescent reflections. Tergites 2 and 3 each have a dull spot. In males, the eyes are clearly separated on the frons. The dorsal surface of the thorax has five grey stripes. Illustrations of the male genitalia and the larva of this species are provided in Pérez-Bañón et al. (2003). An illustration of the larva is also given by Hartley (1961).
