About Eriogonum saxatile S.Watson

Eriogonum saxatile S.Watson is a variable perennial plant. Individuals can grow as a spindly 10 centimeters tall, or reach up to a bushy 40 centimeters in height. Its rounded or scoop-shaped leaves form a ground-hugging mat. Each leaf grows up to 2 or 3 centimeters wide at maximum, and is covered in dense woolly texture. The plant produces a stout, woolly inflorescence that branches, and bears flower clusters at its nodes. Flowers are most commonly red or pale yellow. This species is cultivated as a low-maintenance plant for rock gardens.
