About Eriogonum deflexum Torr.
Eriogonum deflexum Torr. is a species of wild buckwheat that goes by the common names flatcrown buckwheat, flat-top buckwheat, and skeletonweed. This plant is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It is common across a variety of habitats in this range, and is especially prevalent in desert scrub. Where it grows in highest abundance, it behaves as somewhat of a weed. It is an annual species that varies widely in size, growing from small low-lying patches to tangled bushes that can reach nearly two meters in height. Stands can be dense, or thin and spindly. It is a brown or greenish weed-like herb with a highly branched stem. Its leaves grow at the base of the plant; they are rounded, woolly in texture, and measure between one and four centimeters long. Small clusters of flowers develop at intervals along the branches. Individual flowers are only one to three millimeters wide, and they are white or pinkish in color.
