About Eriogonum brachypodum Torr. & A.Gray
Eriogonum brachypodum Torr. & A.Gray is a species of wild buckwheat commonly known as Parry's buckwheat. This annual herb is native to the southwestern United States, ranging from California to Utah, and occurs especially widely in the Mojave Desert. It grows in sandy and gravelly substrates. The plant has a spindly, skeleton-like stem that branches many times. It can reach 5 to 50 centimeters in height, and grow up to one meter wide. A cluster of rounded, dark-colored leaves grows around the base of the plant; these leaves are a few centimeters long, and fuzzy on their undersides. Most of the plant's structure is made up of its spreading inflorescence. Tiny clusters of glandular flowers, each a few millimeters wide, are held at intervals along the otherwise bare branches, housed within bell-shaped bract involucres. Each individual flower is less than three millimeters wide.
