About Eriogonum brachyanthum Coville
Eriogonum brachyanthum Coville is a species of wild buckwheat, commonly called shortflower buckwheat. It is native to eastern California and western Nevada, particularly the Mojave Desert region, where it ranges from common to abundant, and is sometimes even weedy. It has also been recorded growing in southern Oregon. This plant grows in sandy habitats including desert flats and sagebrush areas, and it also grows in pinyon-juniper and montane conifer woodlands. It is an annual herb that reaches 30 to 40 centimeters tall. Its leaves grow at the base of the stem, have a woolly texture, and are oval or rounded in shape. The upper part of the stem holds a branching inflorescence that carries many widely spaced clusters of flowers. Each individual flower is roughly one millimeter wide and light yellow. The flowering period runs from April to November.
